This one has died, so I've copied the best entries over to my new blog in hopes of ensuring the immortality of my meandering thoughts. Check it out at http://servedtorock.blogspot.com/ and be sure to leave a comment there.

I've read "Blue like Jazz" but not the others. I'll look into them.
Read McLaren with a mountain-sized chunk of salt if you do.
My faith is a lot like yours. We're both the sons of analytical engineers!
For some really affirming material about this type of "skeptical faith" that we know is genuine and real, check out:
"Blue Like Jazz" by Don Miller
"Finding Faith" by Brian McClaren
"Rumors of Another World" by Philip Yancey
"Velvet Elvis" by Rob Bell
in that order. I found these books to really resonate with my faith condition, affirm what I am experiencing, but also help me recognize areas I need to grow in; not in a scolding way but in a real-life, encouraging way.
Particularly "Blue Like Jazz" I found myself saying over and over, "This is just like me!" and I think you might feel the same way from what you posted here. Strongly recommended.

Hey, that's some good stuff there man. I don't think I'm currently having as hard a go of things as you are right now, but learning to trust God and what that actually MEANS and WHY I need to trust Him is something I've been thinking about lately. I know this is a month after the fact of the post....Anyway, hope all's well with ya...
Very good thoughts. The fall makes love very dangerous. It takes a lot of courage in this broken world with broken people. The quote, which is one of my favorites, reminds me of a line in the song Spark by Over the Rhine, "Obsessions with self-preservation faded when I threw my fear away. it's not a thing you can imagine. You either lose your fear or spend your life with one foor in the grave."
I love reading this. I would love to forward this to a close friend who struggles also, like all of us in one way or the other. God bless you Tim. Continue in searching for God and He will give you your hearts desires.
